About a week after it hit the market, Winter Park’s most expensive mansion landed a contract and this week sold for about $11 million, according Fannie Hillman & Associates.

The house on Interlachen Drive is known most for setting into motion an unlikely chain of events that ended up launching one of Central Florida’s most popular wedding venues — Casa Feliz.

Former cruise sales entrepreneurs  Wayne and Judy Heller purchased the three-acre lakefront property in 2000 and set about tearing down a 1930s house there to make way for a larger and more updated house. But Winter Park residents protested and wanted to preserve the old farm-style house designed by Gamble Rogers.

Concerns mounted and the Hellers suggested moving Casa Feliz, donating the it to the city. The nonprofit Friends of Casa Feliz was organized and raised $1.7 million to move and restore the house, which now has a Park Avenue address and has been added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

The Hellers completed the 20,000-square-foot house just blocks from Park Avenue more than a decade after buying the property.

Even though the name of the buyers was not disclosed, several Winter Park residents say Full Sail University Founder Ed Haddock purchased it.

Prior to this week’s sale, the largest resale in Winter Park was philanthropist Alan Ginsburg’s $7 million purchase in 2004 of the estate home built by former NBA star Horace Grant, according to Fannie Hillman.

The longtime Fannie Hillman agent Nancy Bagby represented the Hellers in this week’s sale and said it was exciting because it created a “new ceiling” for prices in the market.
