A couple things …
— The experts at LetsRun.com play to my bias in their latest The Week That Was feature.
In it, among other matters, they ask Usain Bolt to step up and accept a challenge from South African Wade van Niekerk in the 200 meters at the 2017 World Outdoor Championships.
LetsRun makes the case — and I agree heartily — that track & field needs more first-rate, head-to-head matchups to grow the fan base.
The sport is too often about an athlete against the stopwatch or tape measure. Following it that way requires specialized knowledge and makes it inaccessible to the masses.
If I have to choose between a great head-to-head battle with a breath-taking finish and a record performance, I’ll take the finish every time.
Here is the Week That Was, always a fascinating read.

I found President Donald Trump’s immigration order troubling because it seemed to carry with it the potential of turning those benefits gained through international competition into collateral damage.

And now, it’s come to pass with Iran’s decision to ban the U.S. wrestling team from the 2017 World Cup, scheduled for later this month in Iran. Iran is one of the countries singled out by the immigration order.
