Police are searching for a man who tried to lure two children on Monday in the West DePaul neighborhood on the North Side.
About 7 p.m., a 10-year-old child and a 7-year-old girl were walking home in the 1500 block of West Fullerton Avenue when a man inside a van asked them to "come here" and offered them candy, according to a news release from police.
The children then ran home, police said. The children recognized the van as a vehicle they had seen near their home earlier that day and in the area on other occasions.
The driver of the van is described as a Hispanic man with black hair, a black beard and is 20 to 30 years old, police said. His hair was slicked back and he was possibly wearing a Bears jacket.
The vehicle he was driving was a white panel-style van with a dent on the driver’s side, police said. The only windows were on the front of the vehicle.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Area Central Detectives at (312) 747-8380.
