Chris Kreider scored 3:56 into overtime and the New York Rangers beat the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 Thursday night to snap a two-game losing streak.
Mats Zuccarello scored in regulation and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 36 shots, including two in the extra period, for the Rangers. J.T. Miller had assists on both goals to help New York get its league-leading 18th road win, including 11 of the past 13.
On the winning goal, Kreider took a pass from Miller and buried a wrist shot from the right circle for his 20th of the season.
Cody Franson scored and Robin Lehner stopped 42 shots for Buffalo, which has lost three straight.
Flyers 3, Canadiens 1: Matt Read scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period to end his long drought and lead Philadelphia to a victory over Montreal. Claude Giroux also scored and Sean Couturier had an empty-net goal for the Flyers. Nikita Nesterov scored for the Atlantic Division-leading Canadiens. Following Tuesday’s 5-1 loss at Carolina in which the Flyers had just six shots through 21/2 periods, coach Dave Hakstol benched 23-year-old former Union College defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere and 19-year-old forward Travis Konecny. But Hakstol kept Read in the lineup even though the Philadelphia forward hadn’t scored a goal since Nov. 3.
Senators 5, Lightning 2: Mark Stone had two goals and an assist, Mike Condon made 19 saves and Ottawa beat Tampa Bay. The Senators, second in the Atlantic Division, also got goals from Kyle Turris, Mike Hoffman and Chris Kelly. Tyler Johnson and Brayden Point scored for the Lightning, who have lost 11 of 14 (3-9-2). Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 25 shots.
Predators 2, Oilers 0: Pekka Rinne stopped 31 shots for his 42nd career shutout, leading Nashville over Edmonton. Viktor Arvidsson and Ryan Johansen each had a goal and an assist to help Nashville win for the second time in three games.
Jets 4, Stars 3: Mark Scheifele scored two goals, Nikolaj Ehlers had a goal and an assist and Bryan Little also scored for Winnipeg. John Klingberg, Jamie Benn and Patrick Eaves scored for Dallas.
Blackhawks 4, Coyotes 3: Patrick Kane had a goal and an assist, Duncan Keith added two assists and Chicago defeated Arizona. Ryan Hartman, Marian Hossa and Artemi Panarin also scored for the Blackhawks.
Blues 5, Maple Leafs 1: Paul Stastny scored twice and Jake Allen stopped 26 shots to lead St. Louis.
