Noted author Joyce Carol Oates will give a reading and a talk April 18 at Mellon Middle School auditorium in Mt. Lebanon as a benefit for the Mt. Lebanon Public Library.

Oates is the author of more than 40 novels, along with several works of nonfiction, short stories, poems and essays. She received the National Book Award for 1969's “them.” She has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize six times. Her next novel — “A Book of American Martyrs,” focusing on two people on opposite sides of the abortion rights debate — is due out Feb. 7.

Tickets to the lecture are $20. Admission to a VIP reception with Oates is $50 and includes the lecture. The school is located at 11 Castle Shannon Blvd., across from the library.
