JERSEY CITY — A Lincoln High School basketball coach was ripped from his car and threatened with death over playing time for the upper-class members of his team, authorities said.

The coach, whose name is not being published because he is the victim of a crime, reported the incident Monday night on Brinkerhoof Street, just feet from the school, according to a police report.

At about 8:20 p.m., police were called to the area on reports of an armed robbery. When they arrived they were unable to locate a victim, the report states.

Moments later, the coach walked into the West District police station, about three blocks from the school, and told police he was inside his car when a masked man holding a crowbar forced him to the ground, the report states.

“You need to start playing the seniors for two minutes a quarter or I’m going to kill you,” the suspect told the coach, according to the report.

No one was arrested following the incident.

The victim and Lincoln High School Athletic Director Keith Price declined to comment on the attack. A spokeswoman for the school district said she was looking into what is being done to address the crime.
