Deshaun Watson passed on a chance to play in last week’s Reese’s Senior Bowl, but he won’t be bypassing a key portion of his next big chance to impress NFL evaluators.
Watson told NFL Network on Thursday that he will throw at the NFL Scouting Combine next month.
"I can just go out there and compete and just be the quarterback that I am," Watson said. "I don’t want to get too focused on what I have to show or what I need to do, because I think I’d lose track of doing the little things. Doing the little things right, completing passes, doing whatever the coaching staffs want me to do at the combine, and just go out there and show what I’ve got."
Top QB prospects often pass on the chance to throw during combine drills and prefer to wait until their pro day to throw in front of scouts since players have more autonomy over the environment at their pro day.
His decision adds another level of intrigue to how Watson, whose accuracy "runs hot and cold" according to NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein, will perform at the event in Indianapolis.
NFL.com analyst Daniel Jeremiah rates Watson as the draft’s No. 32 prospect, but projections for where he’ll go in the draft are all over the map.
