In his press conference, Trump claimed he couldn’t release his tax returns because they were under audit and only the press cared about them. Both statements are false. The IRS said he could release his returns, and surveys indicate millions of Americans want to see them.
Why would a man so prone to boasting of his success not want to prove it? Why hide the evidence? Why lie about his motives? Perhaps because after numerous bankruptcies, Trump’s empire is a house of cards propped up by debt owned by offshore lenders whose interests are not America’s.
More troubling, the facts also suggest Trump turned to Russian oligarchs who bailed him out after his last bankruptcy. Why? Oligarchs don’t do favors. How could a bankrupt real estate tycoon be of any use to them? He won’t say. Did they use him to launder millions in dirty money? We don’t know. What’s clear is he refuses to reveal his financial information, so we cannot discern whether he owes his allegiance more to his foreign lenders than to America.
This is not just unacceptable; it could potentially threaten American security. Demand Trump release his returns.
