The good times continue to roll for the Analy boys basketball team. Wednesday night the Tigers defeated Piner 59-46 to guarantee they will be at least co-champions of the SCL regular season. With three games to go in league play, the Tigers only need one win to clinch the league title outright.

Analy (18-5, 9-0) has been champion of the SCL regular season seven of the past nine seasons.

“Our hope and goal is to close out the league title with a win at Sonoma on Friday night,” Analy coach Brett Page said. “But Sonoma usually plays us tough, especially at their place.”

The host Tigers jumped out to a 13-1 lead in the first quarter but Piner (13-10, 5-5) fought back for a 26-25 lead before succumbing in the third quarter by getting outscored 20-9 by Analy.

“Piner had a great second quarter but we refocused and went to our game plan for the third quarter,” Page said. “We changed our matchups defensively and how we played Piner’s ball screens, which made it difficult for them to penetrate.”

Analy, as usual, was led by its starting guard duo of Aiden Toner-Rogers (26 points) and Dominic Tripodi (18 points).

“Every time Piner made a little run at us they hit a big shot. Those two guards are fourth quarter guys,” Page said.

Piner was led by Brennan Carpenter with 15 points.

“Analy made more plays than us. They beat us in transition and we didn’t get back quick enough,” Piner coach Mike Erickson said. “Their starting guards made some big shots to give Analy separation in the third quarter.”

Petaluma 47, Sonoma Valley 36

The host Trojans (10-12, 7-3) trailed 9-2 early but came back to lead at halftime 21-19 before taking control in the second half. The win keeps Petaluma in second place.

“Sonoma (11-12, 4-5) won the boards in the first half, they played us tough,” Petaluma coach Scott Behrs said. “We picked it up defensively in the second half and were able to get to the rim offensively.”

Behrs said his juniors had an outstanding night, playing their best game of the season collectively.

“Our juniors held it down on senior night,” Behrs said.

Healdsburg 46, El Molino 23

The third-place Greyhounds (16-6, 6-4) found little resistance from the host Lions (2-18, 0-9), who are still searching for their first SCL win with three games remaining.

Healdsburg jumped out to a 16-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

“Our big guys hit the glass hard with 22 rebounds in the first half and 38 for the game,” Healdsburg coach Yasha Mokaram said. “We had lost the previous three games in a row and we were outrebounded in all those losses.”

Juan Aguilar led Healdsburg with 13 points and Trey Chapman chipped in with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

El Molino was led by Nils Carlson with 7 points.
