CLEVELAND Ohio — Another employee at Catholic Charities is charged with stealing money from the charity over several years.

A Cuyahoga County Bahis Siteleri grand jury handed up an indictment Wednesday charging 52-year-old Sandra Ortegon, of Rocky River, with one count of grand theft.

She is scheduled for a Feb. 15 arraignment.

Ortegon, who worked as an office manager for the charity, stole more than $72,000 from the organization between 2013 and 2016, according to the indictment.

The charges come less than a month after Michelle Medrick, 58, of North Royalton, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court of defrauding the charity out of more than $2 million.

Medrick was employed at Catholic Charities for 26 years and stole the money between 2008 and last year. Catholic Charities fired Medrick after discovering the theft.

Federal prosecutors charged her in late December.

It was not immediately clear if Ortegon’s case is related to Medrick’s.

Robert Tayek, spokesman for the Diocese of Cleveland which oversees the charity, said Wednesday afternoon that the organization was not aware of the indictment and would release a statement later in the evening.
