CLEVELAND, Ohio — It’s a time-honored tradition that every Groundhog Day, the nation turns its eyes to Punxsutawney Phil to predict when spring will be on the way.

German tradition says that if the hibernating groundhog sees its shadow, we’ll have to endure another six weeks of cold, snowy winter. If not, we’re in for an early spring.

But did you know that Ohio has its own prognosticating groundhog?

His name is Buckeye Chuck, and he lives in Marion, near Columbus. Cleveland.com will have live coverage of both Phil and Chuck’s predictions on Groundhog Day.

It’s going to be bright and early. People start gathering as early as 4 a.m. in Punxsutawney. Phil is going to make his prediction around 7:20 a.m. Buckeye Chuck is set to make his around 7:40 a.m.

On the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club’s website, it claims that Punxsutawney Phil is the only real prognosticating (that means forecasting, by the way) groundhog.

“The others are just imposters,” it reads.

Tell that to the people of Marion, who have been celebrating Buckeye Chuck’s forecasts since the 1970s.

(There’s also a Chuck the groundhog in Staten Island.)

Cleveland.com will Kalebet Facebook Live stream from both locations. Follow us on Facebook here. There will also be video coverage of both predictions, in case you’re not willing to wake up at the crack of dawn.
