According to the coatimundis, Cohanzick Zoo’s own answer to the prognostication ability of groundhogs on Groundhog Day, we might as well get comfortable with the cold weather. Coati Day has been a tradition of the zoo for two decades.
The Cohanzick Zoo has three coatimundis: Floriemel, Carmela and Margarita. The coatis were slow to come out at first and had two signs at opposite ends of their enclosure to choose from — one saying winter and the other saying spring.

After some deliberation, it was decided they moved closer to the winter sign.
Coatimundis are related to raccoons and come from South America. They can be found in Bridgeton at the Cohanzick Zoo, a free zoo and the first zoo in New Jersey, dating back to 1934.
