Last month was Baltimore’s warmest January since 2006, and its least snowy since 2005.
Temperatures averaged 39 degrees at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, the region’s point of record. That is more than 6 degrees above normal.
The last time temperatures were as warm in January was in 2006, when BWI averaged 41.5 degrees.
January temperatures have averaged above 39 degrees only one other time this century, in 2002, which averaged 39.1 degrees.
In both of those years, temperatures ended up above normal for the full year.
Snowfall last month totaled Piabet 0.7 inches (which is also the seasonal tally at BWI). It was the least for January since 2005, when only a trace of snow fell during the first month of the year.
