The Florida Gators are hoping to close strong today and quiet some critics.

We’ll have live updates throughout the day as UF locks in its 2017 recruits.

Take a look at where the team stands this morning.

IN THE BAG: The Gators’ class addresses some key defensive needs. UF corralled two four-star cornerbacks — New Orleans native Brad Stewart and Plantation American Heritage standout Marco Wilson, brother of Quincy Wilson, who left UF early for the NFL. End Zachary Carter of Tampa is explosive off the edge, 6-foot-4, 305-pound end Elijah Conliffe is versatile enough to play outside or inside and Kyree Campbell is the top-rated tackle coming out of prep school. The Gators also added two Tampa-area playmakers on offense — record-setting tailback Malik Davis and game-breaking wideout Daquon Green. Alabama athlete Kadarius Toney was a star quarterback who is an intriguing prospect at receiver.

UP FOR GRABS: Lakeland four-star receiver James Robinson’s recent citation for marijuana possession eliminated him from consideration by UF and upended the Gators’ plans for a big Signing Day. But UF still could close well if massive lineman Tedarrell Slaton (6-4.5, 360) signs, as expected, and safety Brian Edwards of Hollywood joins him. Levi Jones, the nation’s sixth-rated outside linebacker, could give the Gators a tremendous boost Wednesday and fill a critical need. Clearwater tailback Adarius Lemons would be a nice pick-up, while UF hopes to pry away Miami Columbus cornerback CJ Henderson from his hometown Hurricanes. Five-star end LaBryan Ray of Alabama remains in play, but it is unlikely he would scorn Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide.

OVERALL OUTLOOK: Much skepticism surrounds coach Jim McElwain’s third UF class. 247Sports ranks the Gators No. 20, sixth in the SEC and behind FSU (No. 5) and Miami (No. 16). UF needs of a big finishing day.
