FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida — A Toledo man convicted of his role in an attack on a teen boy who propositioned his daughter while on a cruise ship has been sentenced to two years in prison, reports say.
According to the Sun Sentinel, the incident involving Jason Lawson, 33, occurred in August 2015 aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Independence of the Seas. Arturo Martinez, Lawson’s brother-in-law, said he overheard the 13-year-old boy offering Lawson’s daughter a “key chain for her virginity.”
Lawson and Martinez would not let the boy leave the ship’s library. Martinez, 31, reportedly forced the boy to pull down his pants and simulated a sex act on him.
Prosecutor’s say Lawson did nothing during Martinez’s actions, the Sun Güvenilir Casino Siteleri Sentinel reports, and Lawson apologized repeatedly for his inaction during his sentencing. Lawson had pleaded no contest to charges of child abuse and false imprisonment.
“I didn’t mean any harm. This was not me,” Lawson said.
However, Broward Circuit Judge Dennis Bailey ignored pleas for leniency, chiding Lawson for his inaction.
Martinez has not yet pleaded to charges against him, the Sun Sentinel reports.
