One person is dead and three others have been hospitalized after a broad daylight stabbing in Hollywood led to a police-involved shooting on Tuesday, reports said.
The incident unfolded at around 2 p.m. local time at a Jack in the Box near Sunset and Ivar boulevards, according to KTLA.
The area is considered to be one of the town’s busiest and largest entertainment hubs, with CNN news headquarters located just nearby.
Graphic cell phone footage captured inside the fast-food joint shows the bloody aftermath.
In the clip, several people can be seen sitting down as an elderly-looking man, who appears to have been stabbed in the arm, receives treatment from paramedics. French fries and food containers can be seen strewn throughout the restaurant as officers with assault rifles attempt to take a person — possibly the suspect — into custody.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department told the LA Times that at least Betgram three people suffered injuries ranging from gunshot to knife wounds. At least two of the victims were stabbed, KTLA reports.
They were all taken to local hospitals.
A fourth person died at the scene, officials said.
CNN correspondent Maeve Reston tweeted that the suspect had been running down busy Sunset Boulevard — trying to stab people at random outside the network’s office — before police placed the building on lockdown. She said the man was eventually shot by officers.
“B4 Hollywood stabbing suspect shot, tried to come into our fave coffee place w/ his knife, but customer held glass door shut, blocking him,” Reston tweeted.
Helicopter footage showed blood still stained on the pavement Tuesday afternoon as police canvassed the scene.
