Noor Salman, wife of Pulse gunman, scheduled for bond hearing Wednesday

Noor Zahi Salman, the widow of the Pulse nightclub shooter, is scheduled to have a bond hearing Wednesday in California, about two weeks after she pleaded not guilty to federal charges.

Salman’s attorney filed a motion Tuesday outlining reasons to lower her bond, saying that her mother and uncle are willing to put up their houses as collateral if she were to be released.

Her mother said she would be willing to watch over Salman and move to Florida if she needed to be there.

Her attorney, Charles D. Swift, also argued that Salman had no knowledge about what her husband, Omar Mateen, was going to do.

Prosecutors charged her with aiding and abetting and obstructing justice, saying that she did know about her husband’s plan to attack the patrons of the Pulse nightclub in Orlando on June 12. Mateen was killed after a three-hour standoff with police.

Salman was indicted on the charges by a federal grand jury in Orlando and eventually will come to Central Florida to face those charges.

Swift wrote that Salman and Mateen were planning a trip to California. The night before the attack, she took her son to buy Mateen a Father’s Day card and gift.

She said she was asleep during the attack and was woken up when her mother-in-law called to ask where Mateen was.

Salman then texted Mateen, “Where are you?”

“These are not the actions of someone with knowledge of her husband’s murderous plans,” Swift wrote.

After the shooting, which killed 49 people and injured at least 68, investigators spent hours interviewing Salman. Investigators said she told the FBI she had visited the Orange Avenue nightclub at least once before the massacre and was with him when he bought ammunition.

After the attack, Salman moved to California with her son.

At her plea hearing, Salman’s uncle, Al Salman, defended his niece.

If she is convicted of both charges, she faces a sentence of up to life in prison.
