The Ministry of Agriculture will have a newly created State Secretariat and Labor will have another one: the Social Economy
MADRID, 21 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The ten economic ministries of the new Government of Pedro Sánchez will have 18 secretaries of State, a figure higher than that of the previous legislature, according to the new structure of the different Departments published this Tuesday in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
With the separation of the previous Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda into two ministries, that of Housing and that of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, each of them now has a Secretary of State.
Specifically, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda of Isabel Rodríguez will have the Secretary of State for Urban Agenda, while the Ministry of Transport, led by Óscar Puente, will have a Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
The changes in the now old Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation have also caused a ‘dance’ of State Secretariats from one ministry to another, which has lost this last competence and has won that of Commerce, previously in the Ministry of Industry.
Specifically, the new Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Business, in the hands of Nadia Calviño, will have the Secretary of State for Economy and Business Support and the Secretary of State for Commerce.
For its part, the new Ministry of Digital Transformation led by José Luis Escrivá will have the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure and the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Luis Planas will have, as a novelty, a Secretary of State, which will be called the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Food.
For its part, the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy headed by Yolanda Díaz will have two State Secretariats: the Labor Secretariat and the newly created State Secretariat for Social Economy, since previously both powers were united in a single Secretariat.
In the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration that Elma Saiz will now occupy, the Secretariats of State for Migration and Social Security and Pensions are maintained. The Ministry of Finance of María Jesús Montero also retains its three secretariats of State: Finance, Budgets and Public Function.
Also the Ministry of Ecological Transition in the hands, again, of Teresa Ribera, maintains the Secretariats of State for the Environment and the Secretariat of State for Energy.
Finally, the Ministry of Industry and Tourism will have two State Secretariats: Industry and Tourism. Previously it also had two Secretariats of State, that of Commerce and that of Tourism, but when Commerce moved to the Ministry of Economy, that Secretariat of State was also transferred.
The gap left by it will be occupied by a State Secretariat for Industry, which previously did not exist at that level, but rather as the General Secretariat.
The new Government of Pedro Sánchez, shared by the PSOE and Sumar coalition, will have four vice-presidencies and 22 ministries, of which ten are linked to the economic area, at a time when an economic slowdown is in sight and Spain has to speed up the deployment of European funds before the end of 2026.
One of the most important developments is the promotion of the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, to the fourth vice presidency of the Executive. She will share rank with Nadia Calviño, first vice president and minister of Economic Affairs; Yolanda Díaz, second vice president and Minister of Labor and Teresa Ribera, third vice president and Minister of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge.
Likewise, Sánchez has decided to give greater weight to the economic area of the Government by adding two new ministries in the field. The until now Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda will be divided into two – Transport and Housing – and the Ministry of Digital Transformation will be created, an area that until now was integrated into the Department of Economic Affairs, led by Calviño.
