In Spain, up to 41% of people surveyed are optimistic about the possibility of avoiding a climate catastrophe in the coming years.
More than half of the Spanish population (59%) considers that climate change is the main challenge facing society today. A priority that surpasses other issues such as price increases (47%) or war conflicts (14%). This is what the new edition of Epson’s Climate Reality Barometer points out, a study that analyzes the perception of citizens in 39 countries regarding the climate emergency. In Spain, up to 41% of people surveyed are optimistic about the possibility of achieving avoid a climate catastrophe in the coming years. This figure represents an increase of 18% compared to last year, when only 23% were optimistic. By generations, people under 29 years of age are the most positive, with 49%; After the age of 30, the figure decreases and is below the average, at 38%. Regarding the opinions of the population surveyed about the next 12 months, in the short term the percentage of optimistic population decreases up to 18%, while a less positive view predominates, in which the majority feelings are pessimism (28%) and concern (24%).Spain faces an increasingly extreme context, with records of record temperatures , and recurring episodes of heat waves and drought. In this context of climate emergency, Epson’s analysis reveals that the Spanish population is increasingly adopting sustainable habits in their daily lives. Among the actions that the people surveyed are carrying out most frequently, the increase in the use of reusable products stands out (76% this year, compared to 64% the previous year), as well as the reduction in the use of plastic ( 69% this year, compared to 66% previously). Regarding the implementation of good recycling habits, the percentage remains constant at 71%, the same as last year. In addition, the population also indicates the willingness to implement new initiatives in the future, such as the adoption of renewable energies (55%) and electric vehicles (51%). To the questions about the initiatives to be adopted by companies in the fight against climate change, the Spanish respondents respond by highlighting investment in sustainable technologies (47% ) and the improvement of products so that they are easily recycled and reusable (44%), followed by the reduction in the use of natural resources throughout the entire value chain (28%).Pilar Codina, head of sustainability at Epson Ibérica points out: “The results of the latest Epson Climate Reality Barometer clearly reflect the growing awareness and concern of Spanish society in relation to climate change. It is encouraging to see that more than 59% of the population considers climate change as the main global challenge today. However, there is still work to be done. “It is crucial that, jointly and collaboratively, we promote the adoption of sustainable habits and investment in technologies and actions that help make the world a better place for all people.”
