MADRID, 28 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The US Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo, highlighted at the beginning of her four-day visit to China the importance of both powers maintaining a “stable” trade relationship.

Raimondo landed in Beijing this Sunday and will carry out an official visit to the country until next Wednesday, with meetings scheduled in the Chinese capital and Shanghai with senior officials of the People’s Republic of China, as well as with US business leaders.

“It is a complicated relationship; it is a challenging relationship. Of course, we will not agree on certain issues, but I think we can move forward if we are direct, open and practical,” the US official said in statements reported by the press in both countries before meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Wentao.

“We share 700,000 million dollars (648,381 million euros) in trade and I agree that it is deeply important that we have a stable economic relationship that benefits both countries and is, in fact, what the world expects of us”, Raymond said.

The Commerce Secretary’s trip follows recent visits to the country by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and Climate Change Envoy John F. Kerry, and after the meeting that the president of the United States, Joe Biden, held with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, in November 2022 to deepen the communication between the United States and China on different issues.
