The pure-electric Hyper Barchetta is a masterpiece of design and technology: the simplicity of its flowing open-top bodywork contrasted with exquisite technical details to deliver a dramatic interpretation of a classic racer, backed by pure-electric performance.
Automobili Pininfarina’s PURA design philosophy expresses a sleek silhouette and dramatic proportions, as evidenced by the recently unveiled PURA Vision concept. The principles laid out here have been translated to the B95, balancing inspiration from iconic classic racing cars with futuristic elements, all while staying true to the PURA philosophy.
The B95 makes its world premiere at Monterey Car Week in August, unveiled alongside the Battista Edizione Nino Farina hyper GT, which debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, as well as the recently launched PURA Vision design concept.
Paolo Dellachà, CEO, Automobili Pininfarina, said: “This is the most exciting chapter in the Automobili Pininfarina story so far: we are taking another big step forward. DESIGN INSPIRED BY PURA
The B95’s design is exemplified by a full-width wraparound body that wraps around the front fenders. The high stamping line gives the outer body an impressively muscular look. From inside the cabin, it provides a sense of security and comfort while connecting occupants to their surroundings.
Dave Amantea, Design Director, Automobili Pininfarina, commented: “Our PURA design philosophy is based on purity, a hallmark of the timeless designs of Pininfarina’s iconic vehicles of the past. The Barchetta silhouette is instantly recognizable, yet it was our job to make it beautiful. The blend of classic proportions and exquisite details has allowed us to create something truly special. We allow customers to drive a dream with B95, something that defines the advancement of the brand.”
The Automobili Pininfarina B95 represents a striking interpretation of the form of a Barchetta body. Timeless, elegant lines contrast with technical details to create a pure and beautiful design. The B95’s footprint is accentuated by the elegant bodywork with open access to the sophisticated cabin.
The pronounced wheel arches emphasize the shape and power of the vehicle, allowing the design team to add additional shape to the connection between the wheel arches and the body side. This allows reflections from the bodywork to be controlled, adding depth and quality to the design.
Seen from above, the PURA design DNA is instantly recognizable. With no greenhouse on the vehicle, the Automobili Pininfarina design team has defined the cabin space with an encircling loop, incorporating the seats, adjustable aero screens and windscreens behind each passenger. From this view, there are four clear lines that define the B95, showing a connection to the PURA Vision concept.
The open-top driving experience of the B95 is enhanced by the world’s first electronically adjustable windscreens. Drawing inspiration from vintage fighter jets, the clear polycarbonate designs feature intricately engineered, exposed aluminum cradles, and can be raised and lowered by the customer to enhance comfort and preserve design integrity.
Customers can order bespoke helmets, in a coordinated finish to match their chosen B95 specification. These accessories allow the driver to fully experience the performance of the B95 hypercar safely on the road or track.
B95: OVERVIEW OF LAUNCH CAR SPECIFICATIONS
The main bodywork of the exclusive B95 making its world debut at Monterey this year is finished in Bronzo Superga metallic, providing a dramatic contrast to the distinctive Giallo Arneis gloss section at the front and top of the engine’s fairing. driver, which features Black Gloss ’95’ lettering.
Extensive use of Black Exposed Signature Carbon offers a technical 3D sculptural effect that contrasts with the elegant paintwork on the bodywork. This same contrasting detail can also be seen around the carbon fiber splitter at the front and around the rear aero tailpipe.
The body finish is a flawless, multi-layered gloss that emphasizes the B95’s sleek silhouette. Combine gold metallic flakes to give it incredible depth of color. During the day, the accents appear gold in texture and color, while at night they take on a bronze hue, giving the impression of two different colors depending on the time of day.
Completing the exterior, the B95 gets new 20″ front and 21″ rear forged aluminum wheels finished in Matt Black, contrasting with precision-polished exposed matte aluminum exteriors. The central locking rings are finished in black anodized brushed aluminum, while the brake calipers are Giallo Arneis, matching the exterior details.
The interior is the epitome of a classic race car in a futuristic design, with a concept car-inspired dashboard and a cabin environment that leaves occupants feeling safe and pampered.
From the driver’s seat, the expansive dash appears to blend with the exterior, extending the distinctive lines of the hood into the cabin, as seen in the PURA Vision design concept.
Together with the sculptural carbon fiber dashboard, a floating wing effect is created. The dashboard is trimmed in custom embossed Tan Sustainable Luxury Leather, which contrasts with the brushed black aluminum anodized finish featured elsewhere.
The seats, also finished in Tan Sustainable Luxury Leather, are inspired by those of a classic race car, designed to curve around the occupant. Both seats have been profiled to pamper driver and passenger, ensuring comfort and protection, with a two-part design inspired by the seats found in PURA Vision, with unique aluminum inserts.
Featuring electro-welded Pininfarina logos, the headrests are finished in a Pied de Poule Houndstooth luxury textile, while black and tan contrast stitching continues on the seats, door liner and dashboard.
There are unlimited custom opportunities for B95 collectors, ensuring that each of the 10 examples is unique.
One of the most notable custom opportunities is the laser-etched aluminum door plaque, located on the outer edges of both doors and easily visible when entering and exiting the car. Finished in anodized black with bespoke B95 engraving in white, they add a sense of theatrics as you enter the hyper Barchetta.
Andrea Crespi, Technical Director, Automobili Pininfarina, said: “The Automobili Pininfarina B95 could have been created simply as a fully electric hyper Barchetta, however we wanted it to be much more than that. We have selected the latest technology to make it a vehicle that people want to have, as well as an exciting place to be.The application of technology to create our adjustable aero screens is inspired by two-wheeled racing, ensuring this is a pioneering road car. This new patented technology enables the Sheer thrill of open top driving, but with comfort even at the high speed the B95 is capable of.”
The B95 is powered by the same state-of-the-art powertrain that delivers impressive performance in the Battista hyper GT, but with a unique tune for such a unique vehicle. Accelerating from 0-60 mph in less than 2 seconds, the B95 has a top speed of over 300 km/h.
The world’s first purely electric Hyper Barchetta features a high-capacity 120 kWh lithium-ion battery that generates a maximum power of 1,400 kW (1,900 PS). The liquid-cooled, T-shaped battery pack is protected within a strong, lightweight carbon fiber casing and can be charged with DC fast chargers up to 270kW, for a 20-80% recharge in just 25 minutes.
This power is delivered to the road via four independent high-performance electric motors, one for each wheel. Five distinct drive modes take advantage of full torque vectoring technology to allow the driver to tailor power delivery and handling to suit their driving preferences and conditions.
Five driving modes can be chosen to tailor driving dynamics: Calm, Pure, Energica, Furiosa and Carattere, which are activated via a tactile sports rotary selector, located next to the steering wheel.
