– Starlizard Integrity Services identifies 79 suspicious football matches played around the world in the first half of 2023
35% of suspected matches were held in three countries
21% related to the betting markets of only the first half
LONDON, Aug. 16, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — New data from sports betting integrity specialists Starlizard Integrity Services (SIS) has identified 79 soccer matches played around the world between January 1 and April 30. June 2023 as “suspects”. Of these, 16 Aug. (35%) – took place in only three countries, and one of them was responsible for 12 integrity alerts (15%).
Matches analyzed by SIS are classified as “suspicious” when they are found to have associated suspicious betting patterns that may be indicative of match-fixing. Although the level of suspicion will vary from party to party depending on the nature and amount of evidence discovered, all parties identified as suspicious are considered by SIS to merit further investigation.
The 79 matches considered “suspicious” in the first half of 2023 represent 0.48% of a total of 16,336 football matches analyzed by the SIS during the period. This figure contrasts with the 84 “suspicious” parties (0.45%) of a total of 18,845 parties analyzed in the same period of 2022.
