MADRID, 30 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Tesla Model Y has been crowned as the best-selling model so far this year in Europe, with 136,564 units and a growth of 204%, surpassing the Dacia Sandero, which occupies the second position with 123,408 units and a growth of 27%. , according to data from the consulting firm Jato Dynamics.
In total, vehicle registrations in Europe grew by 17% in the first half of the year, reaching 6.56 million units sold, compared to the 5.59 million registered in the same period of 2022. In the month of June, sales of new cars have grown by 18% compared to the same period of the previous year, with 1.26 million units.
However, the consultant has recalled that these data are far from those registered in 2019 and 2018, before the pandemic, with 1.86 million and 2.13 million fewer units respectively.
Specifically, Jato global analyst Felipe Muñoz has highlighted that although registrations are increasing “slowly” again, difficulties, such as those of the supply chain and other post-pandemic factors, show that the market “will not be the same” as before 2020, at least “for a while”. For this reason, Jato considers that an important barrier to reaching these figures is due to the accessibility of electric vehicles and their higher prices.
In addition, the consultancy has highlighted Tesla’s market share growth in the first six months of the year, where it grew 1.3 percentage points to reach 2.82% of the total market, with some 185,238 registered units, 117% more . For its part, the company’s Model Y was the best-selling vehicle accumulated up to June, with 136,564 units and a growth of 204%.
In this sense, Jato has also highlighted the growth in MG’s market share, which has been the second that has grown the most, with 0.77 percentage points compared to the first half of 2022, reaching 1.59% of the market. “MG is using the notoriety of its brand in the West and the competitiveness of the Chinese market to its advantage,” said Muñoz. The MG 4, the brand’s most popular, has been the sixth best-selling vehicle in the 100% electric segment in Europe until June, with 30,779 units.
While the total registrations of 100% electric vehicles (BEV) from January to June reached 934,243 units, 45% more than in 2022 and a share of the total registrations of 14.2%. In this classification, the Model Y was the absolute leader, surpassing by more than three times its pursuer, the Model 3, which reached 42,588 units (6%), and the Volkswagen ID.4, which added 41,672 registrations, which achieved a 82% more than in the first half of 2022.
The Tesla Model Y, with its 136,564 units sold until June, has risen to the first position of the most popular models in Europe, ousting the Dacia Sandero, which occupies the second position with 123,408 units and a growth of 27%.
