MADRID, 4 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Italian utility Enel, owner of 70% of Endesa, has made it clear that it has no intention of divesting itself of its stake in the Spanish utility, “neither now nor in the future”, considering it a “key” asset for its strategy, and has described as “totally unfounded” the rumors about it.
In this way, Enel came up against the information that Endesa could be the object of a possible operation to “Spanishize” its shareholders.
“Enel rejects the rumors about Endesa as totally unfounded. Enel has no intention of selling its shares in Endesa, neither now nor in the future, since the company is a key asset for its strategy, and reports that there is no discussion whatsoever about this topic”, assures the transalpine electric company, which makes it clear that “there has never been any meeting between the directors of Enel and Repsol, nor with Borja Prado (former president of Endesa)”.
In Enel’s opinion, these unfounded rumors “run the risk of having distorting effects on the evolution of the stock market,” concludes the company, which has slightly qualified its official statement.
The newspaper ‘El Confidencial’ publishes this Tuesday that the president of Repsol, Antonio Brufau, and the former chief executive of the electricity company have sat down to analyze the possible merger operation of both groups before the eventual arrival of the popular Alberto Núñez Feijóo at the Moncloa after the general elections on July 23.
On their side, Repsol sources told Europa Press that the company “is not analyzing” a possible operation with Endesa “nor has it analyzed it either”, thus settling the speculation in this regard.
