– SNEC’s Insight: Global module manufacturers jump on the 600W trend, with Trina Solar leading the way in ultra-high power and n-type field
SHANGHAI, June 16, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — A news from OFweek:
At the 16th International Conference and Exhibition on Photovoltaic Power Generation and Smart Energy, held in Shanghai in May, major players presented their latest 600W PV modules. In particular, the 600W modules with 210mm technology have gained clear leadership, representing 60% of the modules on display. In the PERC, TOPCon and HJT technology tracks, 81% of the 600W modules are based on the first two technologies. 600W modules and 210mm i-TOPCon technology have emerged as a definite trend.
Major manufacturers have jumped on the 600W trend, with 210mm technology having a 60% share
82% of module manufacturers presented nearly 100 600W modules at the fair. Regarding the size of the cells of these modules, close to 90% of the modules, especially among the 600W exposed, were made up of 210 mm, 182 mm and rectangular cells. Of these, 210mm cells held firm, with a share of 60%, showing that large-format, high-power modules have become the mainstream industry trend.
Additionally, to maximize power output and optimize container space utilization and cell spacing within modules, Trina Solar has pioneered the introduction of rectangular cell technology, setting an industry trend.
*Note: incomplete statistics for 600W exposures.
TOPCon and PERC enjoy 80% market share, and 210mm n-type technology is emerging as the mainstay of 600W modules.
In terms of technology pathways, a comprehensive analysis of the 279 modules submitted by 68 manufacturers at SNEC highlights the significant presence of 600W high-power modules, which employ various technology pathways, such as PERC, TOPCon and HJT. PERC modules represented 44.8%, TOPCon 36.5% and HJT 17.7%. These figures highlight the steady rise of n-type technology for next-generation solar cells, firmly establishing its position as the dominant choice in the photovoltaic market.
In addition, with the integration of n-type technology, the power of the modules continues to increase. At SNEC, almost 20 modules exceeded 700W power, and all of them were based on 210mm technology. Among them, 12 modules incorporated HJT technology, and six, TOPCon technology.
Trina Solar has taken the lead in introducing high power modules based on the 210mm wafer, leading the industry into the 600W era, as demonstrated at SNEC. The exhibition also highlighted the n-type trend. Trina Solar globally launched its n-type i-TOPCon Advanced technology, upon which the Vertex N portfolio will undergo a comprehensive upgrade, with output power of mass-produced modules reaching 700W next year.
