GENK, Belgium, June 14, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Belgian company, SOLiTHOR, which is at the forefront of the next generation of solid-state lithium batteries, has recruited three leading scientists to grow and improve its technology , taking it to a whole new level. Having invested in several million euros of new cell testing and research laboratories, as well as a new cell production facility in Sint-Truiden, Belgium, the appointment of these leading scientists will form the backbone of the SOLiTHOR movement. towards the commercialization of cell and module technology for the electrification of vehicles for the aviation, defense and maritime sectors.
Dr. Sergey Yakovlev is an accomplished electrochemist and materials scientist with a twelve-year track record of research and development in electrochemical power generation and storage systems. Dr. Yakovlev spent many years working for llika, a pioneer in solid-state battery technology that enables solutions for applications such as IoT, MedTech, and electric vehicles. Dr. Yakovlev has extensive experience in electrode slurry formulation, rheology, and lithium-ion battery electrochemistry. His main focus right now is building a supply chain for the mass production of battery electrode components and building research and development facilities. Dr. Yakovlev will lead the component development team at SOLiTHOR.
Dr. Ali Darwiche will be in charge of component and cell design. He is an expert in Materials Chemistry with more than ten years of experience in research and development. His forte is the use of lithium metal and bag cell assembly. Dr. Darwiche previously worked for Hydro Quebec, Canada’s largest electric utility and a major player in the global hydropower industry. Dr. Darwiche will lead the assembly and test team to build higher capacity bag cells from 0.1 Ah to 3 and 10 Ah.
Dr. Matthieu Moors is a creative engineer and technical lead, with a Master’s degree in chemistry and a PhD in materials science. He has twelve years of international experience in cutting-edge product design, cost-effective process development, and high-volume manufacturing. Dr. Moors joins SOLiTHOR from Tesla, the US multinational automotive and clean energy company, where he played a significant role in the development of the 4680 Tesla cell technology. His experience in manufacturing and process improvement will be a great asset to SOLiTHOR as he transitions from the lab to pilot line demonstration and increases the number of cells produced in the next 3-5 years.
Huw Hampson-Jones, CEO and Co-Founder of SOLiTHOR, said: “We are delighted to welcome these eminently qualified scientists to our team. Their appointment means SOLiTHOR can move quickly towards the deployment of its state cell and battery systems. solid in demonstration battery systems. The reason we are able to recruit such talent is confirmation of our current capabilities and our Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs).”
