MADRID, 9 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Thiess has been awarded an expansion contract of 300 million Australian dollars (187 million euros) in the Mahakam Sumber Jaya (MSJ) mine, in East Kalimantan (Indonesia), where it will carry out operations until March 2026, as reported by the company subsidiary of Cimic, Australian subsidiary of ACS.
The scope of the contract expands the current mining activities, which include loading, hauling, drilling, blasting, maintenance and rehabilitation of haulage roads, also operating from now on in a mine adjacent to the mining operations it already carries out.
“This presents opportunities for our team to continue to deliver successful results for our client and local communities, through an absolute focus on technological and sustainable mining operations,” said Thiess Group Chairman and CEO Michael Wright.
As part of its commitment to sustainable mining, Thiess plans to implement its first autonomy program in Indonesia at the MSJ mine. It will be through an autonomous drilling operation where he anticipates improvements in safety, production and emission reduction.
In addition, the company will also work to increase female participation in the mine by expanding its operator training program for local women interested in joining the mining industry.
