Valladolid, June 5, 2023.- In its commitment to environmental sustainability and the preservation of the natural environment, Vallsur joins the celebration of World Environment Day this year with the initiative
Specifically, during the past year, in Spain the fires devastated more than 309,000 hectares. Castilla y León suffered the loss of 45,262 wooded hectares, which is equivalent to the area of the last ten years together, being La Sierra de La Culebra in Zamora, with some 25,000 hectares, the most affected area in the community.
For this reason, the Valladolid shopping center is launching a two-week online campaign, in which, through advice and recommendations, it aims to make the population aware of the damage caused by fires and how they can be avoided to safeguard the great heritage that the autonomous community has.
To celebrate this environmental week, in addition to this awareness campaign, Vallsur will have several children’s workshops on June 9 and 10 from 6 to 8 p.m., in which they will work with recycled materials and whose theme is based on respect. and care for the environment.
This campaign is part of Caring for Communities, the initiative with which CBRE Iberia’s Property Management area has a positive impact on ESG in those communities where it is present through asset management. On this occasion, the consultant has promoted the launch of the campaign
Savings and efficiency of energy consumption
Within its biodiversity plan, Vallsur has a commitment that goes beyond current environmental legislation. The Valladolid shopping center promotes saving and efficiency in energy consumption, as well as the production of renewable energy in buildings. They also control and minimize water consumption, by having a rainwater reuse system for irrigation, as well as the generation of waste, applying measures for greater segregation of these and giving priority to recycling and reuse.
To encourage the search for and development of new processes that tend to minimize and prevent the environmental impacts of its activities, Vallsur has been the first shopping center in Valladolid to install chargers for electric scooters, promote the use of bicycles -it has a bike park and bike station-, and being an urban shopping center, located on one of the main roads of Valladolid, urban transport is widely used by customers, as there are lines every 10 minutes.
Within this awareness plan, one of the actions to improve the shopping center was to replace the opaque cover of the dome with an ETFE cover with solar control. Thanks to this change, the center has natural light in its galleries and the existence of skylights allows air renewal in a natural way. In addition, among the recently executed projects, the building already has a 100% LED lighting system.
