MADRID, 1 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister for Equality, Irene Montero, has warned that the Government “cannot afford to conclude the legislature with two pending issues that are so important for families and workers”, bumping up mortgages and food prices.
In statements to the media prior to the demonstration for May 1 in Madrid, Montero stressed on mortgages that it is “necessary to stop them and therefore guarantee the right to housing.”
In this sense, he reminded “all those families that right now are not being able to face the abusive rises in these mortgages.”
On the other hand, he has advocated “capping food prices”, which together with mortgages, are “two tasks that the Government cannot ignore before the end of the legislature”, plus “seeing the benefits that are so unpresentable that are presenting the big companies in the food sector”.
Montero has thus claimed this May 1 as a day “of memory, of vindication, of celebration and of struggle”, and has supported the request of the unions to “raise wages, lower prices and distribute the wealth”.
Likewise, he has claimed the “hard work” of the Executive to “facilitate the conquest of rights”, such as those of domestic workers, the labor reform or the Minimum Vital Income (IMV), and has asked the workers to make the spaces “they are safe environments, free of sexual violence, free of violence against women, free of closets and free of LGTBIphobia”.
