MADRID, 26 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has assured this Wednesday that 60% of the 100,000 public homes contemplated in the State Housing Plan that the Executive approved at the beginning of the Legislature are built or under construction.

Sánchez, during the joint press conference with the President of Brazil, Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, on an official visit to Spain, indicated that his Government has placed housing policy as one of its “main priorities”, for which reason 60% of those 100,000 subsidized homes included in the state plan are being built or have already been built.

According to data from the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda, consulted by Europa Press, specifically there are some 57,000 homes that are under construction out of the estimated 100,000.

Sánchez has once again insisted that the Government wants Spain to exceed the European average of 9% of subsidized housing out of the total, compared to the 3% it currently has, and has contrasted this policy with what was done by the Executive of the PP, which during the financial crisis sold many of those public houses to investment funds.

“And that makes Spain have enormous difficulties, especially our young people, to be able to emancipate themselves and access housing. This Government has placed housing policy as one of its main priorities,” he stressed.

In addition, he recalled the mobilization of 43,000 new homes through the financing of loans from the Official Credit Institute (ICO), as well as the provision of another 50,000 homes that are state-owned and the announcement made yesterday about the construction of 20,000 more houses on Ministry of Defense land.

The location of these homes, Sánchez pointed out, will be known in detail when the Government approves it, but he has indicated that the Ministry of Defense has properties throughout Spain and, therefore, there will be homes throughout the national territory.
