Madrid, April 5

Australia’s biggest festival, Vivid Sydney, today announced that it will add an activation of the Wynyard Rail Tunnels to the festival program for the first time with the world premiere of Dark Spectrum.

Three years in the making and billed as an underground spectacle of what lies below, Dark Spectrum will fuse a dynamic musical soundtrack with the latest in laser, robotics, lighting and visual technology to transform Wynyard station’s disused tunnels in a unique experience in a place that has never been open to the public. Creating an immersive multimedia environment, Dark Spectrum will offer Vivid Sydney attendees a visual and sound experience that will penetrate the subterranean depths of the Wynyard tunnels, transporting audiences to a new time and space. Secret passageways will light up and pulses of electronic dance music in eight rooms, each of which will represent a different human experience and associated color. Visitors will pass through rooms themed around separation, constriction, pressure, the invisible, reflection, the unknown, connection and end with a revelation. The highlight of Dark Spectrum is “Constriction”, 150 “tubes” of LEDs hanging from the ceiling that form an interactive landscape of animated pixels that can be touched; “Pressure”, a spectacular set of 50 arches covered in lights and mirrors that create the visual illusion of an endless tunnel; and “Interaction,” an Avatar-esque environment featuring hundreds of dangling light strands interspersed with motion-responsive illuminated alien plants. Presented by Vivid Sydney, Sony Music, Mandylights and Culture Creative, Dark Spectrum will premiere at Vivid Sydney on the 26th. May and will run until July 16, before going around the world. Dark Spectrum will be an experience with a rooftop entrance in Wynyard Park, between York and Carrington streets in Sydney. The entry time will be from 12:00 to 21:15. Ticket prices vary based on date and time of visit: general admission from $35, children from $24 and families from $98.”We are delighted to announce this world-first experience for Vivid Sydney 2023. Dark Spectrum fits perfectly with the theme of this year’s festival, exploring the intersection between human emotions, our natural environment and the urban landscape and relics of Sydney’s industrial past.” “Dive below the surface of what is now one of the busiest rail lines in the city, Dark Spectrum is a truly fascinating and engaging experience for visitors to explore Sydney in a whole new way.
