Wholesale prices in Germany registered a year-on-year rise of 8.9% last February, compared to the 10.6% rise in the previous month, thus prolonging the slowdown in their rise since they reached a rise in April 2022 record 23.8%, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
The interannual variation in wholesale prices is mainly due to the increase in the prices of food, beverages and tobacco (16.8%), as explained by Destatis.
Specifically, the highest increases among foods corresponded to dairy products, eggs, edible oils and fats (25.6%), meat and meat products (21.4%), sugar, confectionery and bakery products (21.4%) as well as fruit, vegetables and potatoes (18.2%).
Live animals (51.0%), construction materials and elements (21.9%) and machines, equipment and materials (11.3%) also had a significant impact on the annual variation rate in February 2023.
