BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 27, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Huawei Carrier BG President Li Peng spoke today at Huawei’s MWC Barcelona 2023 Forum Day 0 about how 5G was opening the door to a world smart, and how the jump to 5.5G will be a key milestone on this journey. Li stressed that the industry had to work together to move faster towards a smart, green and ultra-broadband world, and that Huawei’s GUIDE business plan could help lay the foundation for this important achievement.
Li Peng, Chairman of Carrier BG, Huawei, delivered a keynote address
The physical and digital worlds seem to be getting closer as the effects of digital and intelligent transformation become increasingly apparent in our workplaces, our homes, and our personal lives. Many operators have responded to the growing demand in these areas for higher quality experiences and greater productivity, boosting the ICT industry.
Connectivity is key to a successful 5G development
By the end of 2022, more than 230 5G networks have been commercially deployed, supporting more than 1 billion 5G users and multitudes of 5G devices, and 5G has driven rapid development of the ICT industry. In the consumer market, operators have been innovating to expand “Connectivity”. As 5G capabilities continue to improve, major carriers in Europe, Asia Pacific and the Middle East have launched to develop different types of digital services. Some operators have converged connectivity with local OTT services, allowing them to achieve shared success. These offerings combine connectivity with digital services such as social media, helping them become full digital service providers.
The home market has also become an area where operators can generate more value as 5G and fiber penetration continues to grow. Thus, the operators are expanding the “Connectivity” to offer better experiences, better services as well as more efficient operation and maintenance. Premium home broadband services such as 5G FWA and 10G PON have expanded faster than expected, helping operators in regions like Europe and the Middle East increase ARPU by 30-60%.
General purpose technologies such as 5G, AI and cloud computing are driving industrial digitization and bringing new strategic opportunities. Business customers need more offer portfolios, operators need to strengthen “Connectivity”. A Chinese operator had combined cloud connectivity, AI, security and platform services to expand into new markets and increase its revenue from industrial digitization by more than 20% by 2022.
In the future, operators will continue to improve the capabilities of their networks to offer more guaranteed experiences. That’s why operators are making “Connectivity” more open. Huawei has joined the GSMA-led CAMARA project. Through this project, we intend to help operators transform networks into service enablement platforms and monetize a better customer experience.
Moving faster towards a smart, green and ultra-broadband world
In the future, the intelligent world will be deeply integrated with the physical world. Everything, including personal entertainment, work, and industrial production, will be intelligently connected. This means that networks will have to evolve from ubiquitous Gbps to ubiquitous 10 Gbps, that connectivity and sensing will have to be integrated, and that the ICT industry will have to shift its focus from power consumption to energy efficiency.
The evolution from 5G to 5.5G will be key to meeting these growing requirements.
Huawei is ready to work with its industry partners to deliver a ubiquitous 10 Gbps experience with innovative wireless, optical, and IP technologies; explore use cases such as vehicle-road collaboration and environmental monitoring to integrate sensing and communication; and build a unified system of energy efficiency indicators to promote the development of the green industry.
In 2022, ITU-T officially published NCIe, an indicator to measure the intensity of carbon emissions from networks, as an official standard. The main operators in China and Europe have verified new multi-dimensional energy efficiency indicators in their active networks, and have improved energy efficiency between 20% and 50%.
At the end of his speech, Li urged the entire industry to follow the GUIDE business plan to accelerate the prosperity of 5G and move towards a smart, green and ultra-broadband world together.
MWC Barcelona 2023 will be held from February 27 to March 2 in Barcelona, Spain. Huawei will display its products and solutions at booth 1H50 in Hall 1 of Fira Gran Vía. Together with global operators, industry professionals and opinion leaders, we will delve into topics such as 5G business success, 5.5G opportunities, development green, digital transformation and our vision to use the GUIDE business model to lay the foundation for 5.5G and build on the success of 5G for even greater prosperity.
