Route 132 in Haute-Gaspésie was particularly damaged by strong waves and wind, prompting the Ministère des Transports (MTQ) to carry out emergency work.

“All the emergency teams, including the MTQ, the firefighters, the Sûreté du Québec, everyone joined hands to restore the situation,” explained the mayor of Gaspé, Daniel Côté, in an interview with TVA Nouvelles. .

The mayor believes that the compensation programs for citizens will be improved due to the meteorological disasters that have multiplied in recent years.

“Here in Gaspé, in a very short period of time, we had 67 mm of rain, which followed 22 centimeters of snow. If it had all fallen in snow, we wouldn’t be far from a meter of snow. It’s still huge in the space of 4 to 6 hours,” he explained.

Numerous coastal overflows were recorded in a few places, and the heavy rain that also fell during the storm flooded basements and businesses.
