A day of free social intervention. It will bring together in Madrid experts from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Uruguay and Spain to address, from a multidisciplinary perspective, the prevention and awareness of situations of mistreatment, abuse and ageism of older people

Madrid, November 18, 2022.- La enlace, in collaboration with UNED Madrid, organizes the 1st Ibero-American Conference on prevention and awareness of mistreatment and abuse of the elderly, on November 30 and December 1, 2022, in the assembly hall of the Escuelas Pías, UNED MADRID headquarters (Calle Tribulete, 14, 28012 – Madrid, Spain), from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (Spanish time).

A day of free social intervention that will bring together experts from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Uruguay and Spain to address situations of mistreatment and abuse of the elderly from a multidisciplinary perspective.

It is mainly aimed at professionals in social services and health, justice, security and communication, as well as students of these branches, NGO managers and Administrations that work with the Elderly and society in general. Likewise, to the very group of older people, volunteers and regular caregivers of people in a situation of dependency, as detective agents of situations of mistreatment and abuse.

In this way, UDP’s fundamental objective is to promote the exchange of information and cooperation between Ibero-American countries and Spain to help improve knowledge and dissemination of good practices and future expectations.

The conference will offer an overview of current resources and future expectations for the intervention of ill-treatment from the care and health fields, legal treatment. As well as the importance of the media in the prevention of abuse to avoid stigmatization and discrimination based on age (ageism). All this, from the perspective of gender, diversity and the defense of the rights of the Elderly.

Recognized by the World Health Organization -WHO, as a major public health problem and with the increase in rates of abuse of the elderly during the Covid-19 pandemic, the day will therefore address a topic of interest general and topical, often very invisible.

Since 2003, UDP has been carrying out dissemination, awareness, information and training work, through the liaison organization. This year 2022, it has a subsidy from the Ministry of Social Rights and the 2030 Agenda, through a call for subsidies of 0.7 of Personal Income Tax – Other purposes of social interest.
