The American MN8 Energy takes 37%
MADRID, 31 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Repsol has acquired, through its Repsol Deep Tech fund, 33% of the technology company Smarkia, a software platform that provides its customers with energy optimization solutions.
Along with the entry into Repsol’s capital, there has also been that of the US renewable energy company MN8 Energy, which has acquired 37% of the startup, the companies reported in a joint statement.
In the same operation, the group chaired by Antonio Brufau has transferred one of its energy optimization technologies to Smarkia, which will be in charge of marketing it.
Repsol indicated that it has found in Smarkia’s technological platform “a perfect complement to enhance the value of the technology that it has developed at its Repsol Technology Lab innovation center over recent years.”
In this way, this alliance will allow researchers from both companies to share their experience in the digitization of energy management to enhance current developments, using technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things or ‘edge computing’, and, in turn, it will allow Smarkia to be at the forefront in such innovative sectors as flexibility markets or the optimization of renewable energy generation.
Meanwhile, the entry of MN8 in the capital of the Leonese Smarkia is in line with its strategy of investing in technologies that allow it to offer digital solutions that help its customers’ energy transition.
In addition, the US renewables firm, founded within Goldman Sachs Assets Management, has one of the largest solar portfolios in the United States, with 850 solar projects and an installed capacity of more than 2.6 gigawatts (GW), which makes him a key player in this collaboration, thanks to his experience in the operation of renewable assets.
Smarkia currently manages more than 400,000 measurement points in more than 300 clients from 32 different production sectors in Europe, the United States and Latin America.
Among its clients are Repsol, MN8 Energy, Telefónica Tech or Solar360 and thanks to this technology it hopes to continue its growth as a benchmark energy management platform.
