He made the announcement on Wednesday, in an interview with the Journal de Lévis.
Mr. Picard had however made it known last June that he intended to seek a new mandate.
“Since I’ve been on vacation, I’ve thought a lot since my wife is struggling with a degenerative disease and it’s getting more and more complicated. Instead, I made the decision to become a caregiver. It was not realistic to continue my political career and to be a caregiver, so I made the decision to leave, ”he explained to the Journal de Lévis.
Marc Picard was first elected in 2003 under the banner of the Action Démocratique du Québec (ADQ).
