On Monday, the Raleigh-based club announced the 26-year-old has signed a one-year, two-way deal. The Swede will receive $750,000 if he plays in the National Hockey League (NHL).

“Lagesson adds strength and a physical presence to our blue line,” Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell said in a statement. He has several games in the NHL and in the American League behind the tie and adds experience to our defensive unit.

In 2021-2022, Lagesson played 33 games on the Bettman circuit, including three in a Habs uniform. The Canadiens had acquired him in March 2022 in the trade that brought Brett Kulak to the Edmonton Oilers.

The guard has 60 NHL games and seven assists. He was a fourth-round pick (91st overall) of the Oilers in the 2014 draft.

Ryan Dzingel back in Carolina

The Hurricanes also confirmed Monday that they have agreed to a one-year, two-part deal with forward Ryan Dzingel.

The 30-year-old American forward spent two seasons in the “Canes” organization, between 2019 and 2021. He had collected 33 points in 75 games during this first stint.

Dzingel played for the Arizona Coyotes and San Jose Sharks last season. He has eight points in 32 games in 2021-22.

His star has faded since he had back-to-back 20-goal campaigns with the Ottawa Senators, between 2018 and 2019. He played 404 games on the Bettman League, racking up 188 points.
