TV generated much more than moments of entertainment for the child that was Jordan Dupuis. Thanks to her, he was able to emancipate himself and reveal himself. A happy throwback to years ago.

Jordan, what children’s programs have marked you?

There are so many! But those that automatically plunge me back into nostalgia and my youth are Le village de Nathalie for the freedom to be whoever you want (my god I was a fan of Nathalie Simard!), Iniminimagimo for costumes, creation and theater , and of course Passe-Partout! I am 40 years old, I am 100% Passe-Partout generation! Robin and Stella was also significant for me! And as a teenager, Watatatow was the center of my life! How lucky I was to live my childhood during the golden years of youth TV!

What are your fondest TV memories from that time?

This feeling of freedom and escape. I was a child different from the others and through TV, I was able to experience all my creativity and emancipate myself as an atypical young boy. I was educated, entertained and inspired. I even came out on TV! For me, TV was an important outlet and safe space.

Is there a character who influenced you?

The character of Passe-Carreau! I still remember the time I met Claire Pimparé in a store… I burst into tears, because I saw MY Passe-Carreau in the flesh! She took me in her arms and hugged me tight. It was full of tenderness! I was taken straight back to my childhood.

Is there a character you would have liked to play for children?

To play ? I don’t know, but seeing it on TV, yes. I would have liked to see more body diversity, sexual and gender diversity, and cultural diversity on screen. Having weighed 345 pounds as a teenager, I never really saw myself as a teenager or even a child in what I saw on television.

What universe would you like the children to discover?

When I was little, I was fascinated by insects! My mom had bought me a hobby microscope and I was looking at all kinds of insects. I captured butterflies, bees, caterpillars, etc. Insects are fascinating and are essential to life. I think it’s a very interesting universe for a child…

What do you think of today’s youth TV?

I find it to be both super stimulating, but also extremely even in some ways. Of course, we see more diversity there than ever and that’s good, but I find that there is a lot of fiction. There is a lack of documentary series, society magazines, youth talk shows.

♦ Currently filming for his new documentary magazine On est render là, which will end up on Unis TV next spring, Jordan Dupuis is busy. He is part of the team of the program Bien offered to TVA and TVA, he is a collaborator on the airwaves of Rouge FM and is busy writing a book that will relate his eating disorders in addition to talking about body image. The release of the book is scheduled for 2023 at Libre Expression.
