Canada Day weekend was a busy one for Ottawa police who arrested several people for impaired driving.

During the long weekend, 19 drivers were caught while impaired, three of whom were under the influence of drugs, the Ottawa Police Service said in a press release Monday.

“In addition to the obvious danger the driving poses to the community, these drivers put a strain on emergency services, while police, firefighters and paramedics are diverted from other responses,” said Wayne Stangle, Staff Sgt. Western Division Interim Patrol Staff.

Authorities also said three of the 19 people charged were involved in collisions.

The Ottawa Police Service reminds citizens that they can call 911 if they suspect someone is driving while impaired.
