A man in his 50s was arrested Monday in Caplan, in Chaleur Bay in Gaspésie, for possession and trafficking of illegal cannabis.

The investigation by the Sûreté du Québec began after the interception of two packages by Canada Post which were intended for the suspect.
The police conducted a search of his residence where they discovered nearly 2,500 grams of cannabis in bulk, approximately 300 grams of hashish, two long guns and nearly $500 in Canadian currency.
Police officers from the MRCs of Avignon and Bonaventure arrested the man at his home in Caplan. He was later released on a summons.
Investigators from the MRC of New Richmond, as well as an investigator from the smuggling team, provided assistance during this operation.
