Employees of the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse (CDPDJ) voted more than 95% in favor of a five-day strike mandate, to be used when deemed appropriate, in an attempt to advance negotiations for their collective agreement.

The workers of the general unit of the CDPDJ voted 96% for the strike and the legal advisers 95%, said the Federation of Professionals of the CSN (FP-CSN), in a press release Thursday morning.

“Despite the mobilization of recent weeks, the Treasury Board still refuses to loosen the purse strings to meet the legitimate wage demands of workers,” said the FP-CSN.

These CDPDJ employees have been without a collective agreement for more than a year. Negotiations are particularly stumbling over salary issues. The workers are demanding parity with the wage increases obtained in the public sector.

“It is still possible for the Treasury Board to avoid a strike. It still needs to get down to work seriously and give mandates to recognize the essential mission carried out by the employees of the CDPDJ”, declared Danny Roy, president of the FP-CSN.
