The first free practice session of the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix was successful for Aston Martin, as Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll both cracked the top 12 on Friday.

The Quebecer posted the 12th best time of the day in 1 min 15.539 s. Vettel, meanwhile, just passed Lewis Hamilton in ninth place with a time of 1:15.387.

Aston Martin and Williams are the only teams to have used soft tires during this session.

Charles Leclerc has continued his excellent work behind the wheel of his Ferrari this season. He led the day with a time of 1:14.531, while teammate Carlos Sainz finished third. Sergio Perez came between them and fellow Red Bull driver Max Verstappen completed the top four.

Elsewhere, Finn Valtteri Bottas was the only one not to register a time, having spent most of the session in the garage while his team, Alfa Romeo, sorted out a technical problem in the back of his car.
