The 300 union members of the Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) launched an indefinite general strike on Friday.

This decision follows the suspension of the president of the union, the vice-president as well as 75 employees on the grounds that they wore dresses and Bermuda shorts as means of pressure, rather than black pants and sweaters strict, the workers said.

“The union party proposed a truce which would put an end to the means of pressure, but it seems that the SQDC did not seize the opportunity, but rather chose confrontation,” the Canadian Union of Workers said in a press release on Tuesday. the public service (CUPE), which represents the workers.

Among the demands demanded by the workers, there are salaries and benefits similar to those offered in other comparable state corporations, in particular the Société des alcools du Québec. An SQDC employee earns $17 an hour upon hiring.

In February 2022, the workers voted 91% for a mandate to initiate pressure tactics that could go as far as an indefinite general strike at the time deemed appropriate. The 300 union members of the SQDC are distributed across 26 different branches.
