Much-loved in Detroit in a supporting role, left-winger Taro Hirose signed a new two-year deal with the Red Wings on Saturday. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Since the 2018-2019 season, the Manitoban has been one of the players who commutes most often between Detroit and the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American League. Hirose contributes to the success of the Wings subsidiary by being one of its best scorers each year. He also established a personal best with 53 points in 59 games last season.

In the National League, the 25-year-old had four points in 15 games in 2021-22, bringing his career total to 20 in 57 games.

Hirose joined the Red Wings in 2019 as a free agent, having played the previous three seasons at Michigan State University.
