GAS PRICES. Regulated gas tariffs will increase by 1.1% on May 1. Linternaute.com explains why.
[Updated on April 30, 2021 at 14: 37] After experiencing a sharp decline in April, gas prices are rising again in May. This slight increase is attributed to the rise in world gas prices, but also to the blockage of the Suez Canal, through which 8% of the world’s liquefied natural gas passes. As a reminder, a huge container ship ran aground on March 23, causing real traffic jams at both ends of the canal. This crucial route of global maritime trade had been blocked for almost a week. According to the maritime data company Lloyd’s List, the blockage of the Suez Canal prevented the passage of cargo estimated at 9,6 billion dollars (8 billion euros) every day between Asia and Europe.
In addition to this global context, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has found that the level of European gas storage is lower than usual. Due to cooler temperatures than usual during this period, households consumed more energy.
What about your invoice ? As of May 1, the regulated tariffs marketed by Engie will increase by 1.1%, but the increase is differentiated according to use, here is what awaits you :
Cooking : 0.3% Heating : 1.2% Dual use (cooking and hot water) : 0.7%
“Since January 1, 2019, the regulated gas sales rates of Engie have decreased by 12% in all. Their level also remains lower than in 2015, ” says the CRE. In total, three million households still depend today on regulated gas tariffs. This slight increase in gas prices comes as the executive has started the campaign to send the energy 2021 check. As a reminder, this device allows the payment of an aid to the payment of energy bills for the most modest. The average amount of the check is 150 euros. The grant is automatic.
Regulated gas tariffs will disappear
Do you still depend on regulated gas prices ? Since the Energy and Climate Law adopted in 2019, regulated tariffs are gradually disappearing. Engie has stopped marketing new contracts at regulated rates of sale (TRV), since November 2019, which means that you will soon change contracts. If you benefit from an Engie contract, don’t panic. It remains valid until June 30, 2023. Be careful, however, since if you have not changed your contract yourself, you will see your contract automatically go on a market offer from Engie, from July 1, 2023.
