pregnant women who must stop working before giving birth because of unemployment or illness will soon be entitled to fifteen weeks of maternity leave. On Thursday, the parliamentary committee of social affairs has approved on second reading a draft law on this subject. The proposal, which must still be approved by the plenary assembly of the Chamber, shall take effect retrospectively from 1 march.

According to the current legislation, women were already entitled to fifteen weeks of maternity leave : six weeks before the delivery scheduled, including one week compulsory – and nine weeks after the birth.
