Greenpeace struck again. This morning around 10: 30am, activists of the NGO defence of the environment were initiated, with the help of a drone, flares of distress on the roof of the storage pool for irradiated fuel of the plant Orano (ex-Areva) La Hague. According to the press release of the NGO, this action was aimed “to denounce the risk of saturation of the site and its vulnerability.”

Alix Mazounie, in charge of campaign Energy for Greenpeace France, said in the same statement that “Greenpeace has demonstrated, once again, that the nuclear facilities of france are not adequately protected against the risk of aggression to external one. But what is particularly shocking is that this drone is able to turn on the smoke of distress on the roof of the swimming pool, that is to say, the weak point of a building containing the largest quantity of radioactive material in the world”.
For his part, the spokesman of Orano said that “the rollover of these drones had no impact on the safety of facilities and staff”, while stating to have “notified the authorities”. The group has also expressed its intention to “file a complaint for trespassing”.

the la Hague plant is, according to Orano, the global leader in the field of recycling of used fuel from nuclear reactors around the world. Orano is a company after the restructuring of the ex-Areva group, which specialises in the nuclear fuel cycle.
Greenpeace is not his first action. Almost every year, operations of this type are carried out on the various nuclear sites of the territory of france, such as Nogent-sur-Seine (Aube) in 2011, Tricastin (Drôme) in 2013, at Cattenom (Moselle) and at Cruas-Meysse (Ardèche) in 2017. The use of drones had already been made last year by the NGO to the plant in Saint-Vulbas, in Ain.
