Cambridge Analytica is at heart of data scandal: The company, which had also worked for Donald Trump’s election campaign team in 2016, obtained access to data of up to 87 million Facebook users. An app developer had sold Cambridge Analytica more than four years ago information from respondents to a poll as well as ir Facebook friends. This transaction was unlawful, says Facebook. The company got into criticism because it knew about it since end of 2015, but users did not teach.

The longtime chief of Cambridge Analytica, Alexander Nix, was suspended in March. He had boasted, among or things, in front of a reporter’s hidden camera that Cambridge Analytica would also resort to blackmail to influence outcome of elections. Nix later justified himself that he had only “played” in conversation.
