The tax investigators in Germany made a significant increase in revenues last year. In total, around 3.2 billion euros were subsequently driven into taxes in year 2016. This is from current monthly report of Federal Ministry. In previous year, it was refore around three billion euros.

The Ministry recalls increase mainly due to a special effect: purchased tax CDs with database data of suspected tax fraudsters. However, ministry did not provide any information as to how high this special effect was.
Fewer procedures, higher fines
In general, more revenue from tax investigation for years comes from tax types sales tax and income tax. Nationwide, 2016 were closed by tax offices around 73,000 criminal proceedings, for example due to evasion, which was 10,000 less than in previous year. The tax authorities, however, imposed considerably more fines, namely 112 million euros. That was twice as many as in previous year.
